Patient Safety Training
NCPS has developed an inclusive patient safety training program offered to VA employees nationwide in an effort to enhance safe health care delivery to veterans.
Along with hundreds of VA professionals, NCPS has trained representatives from 280-plus organizations during more than 40 sessions conducted since November 1999.
Participants have come from federal and state activities, as well as from the private sector. For example, attendees have included representatives from the U.S. Indian Healthcare Service, the Connecticut Department of Health, and the American College of Surgeons.
Professionals from twelve foreign nations have also attended.
The training includes how to effectively conduct a root cause analysis, as well as how to use Healthcare Failure Mode and Effect Analysis techniques, as developed by NCPS. Another major training priority is acquainting participants with the importance of human factors engineering in health care.
