VA Care is High-Quality
A 2017 review of 69 published studies conducted by the independent RAND research organization concluded that the VA performed as well as, or better than, private health care systems on most quality care measures.1
Additionally the RAND study reported that “In terms of effectiveness, VA facilities had similar or superior quality to non-VA facilities with respect to preventive, recommended and end-of-life care, as well as managing medications.”
“We found that the overall quality of care in the VA health system compares favorably to other segments of the U.S. health care system,” said Dr. Courtney Gidengil, co-author of the study and a physician scientist at RAND, a nonprofit research organization.2
VA is proud of the quality of care provided to Veterans. That is why VA openly and transparently reports quality data about how VA hospitals compare to non-VA hospitals. The new VA Access and Quality website also compares VA hospitals with other VA hospitals to give you – the Veteran – an informed choice about where you would like to receive your health care.
